True Believer

In his recent collection Devon Halfnight Leflufy explores the hybrid iconography of Los Angeles and its subcultures, envisioning an “LA ethnic style”. Tracksuits melt seamlessly into embroidered cashmere jackets, hand knittedLakers jerseys and laser cut leathers, solidifying his desire to create street wear through luxury. Devon’s collaboration with Canadian artist Brian Kokoska combines the celebrity worship and teenage sensuality of LA with the artist ‘s surreal world of harsh physicality and expressiveness. For his Master collection Devon Is developing sunglasses with the Belgian eyewear company Theo, creating all his textiles with Jacquard weaving experts in Holland, France and Belgian and reinterpreted laser cutting techniques through intricate combinations of his “LA ethnic” Iconography. Devon’s collection creates an onslaught of freshness, which is an aesthetic as much as a mind state, as it elicits the intangible thrill of adolescent discovery. Born in Vancouver, Devon Halfnight Leflufy took technical studies in Montreal before attending the renowned Royal Academy of Antwerp. While in school Devon has interned at Walter Van Beirendonck and at Zero + Maria Cornejo. Devon received the International Jury Prize in 2013 and the “Louis Prize” in 2013, which is awarded to the most promising student of the Antwerp Bachelor program. Though a student, Devon’s collection is sold in Opening Ceremony New York, Los Angeles and London as well as in Paris and Antwerp at RA13.
