My practice is inter-disciplinary and experimental in nature; I make ceramics when I have access to a kiln and studio. These prints were based on photographs of ceramics I had created in California earlier in 2014. Ceramics are molded and shaped from solid clay and water; the basest of earth material. Then they are fired and hardened at tens of thousands of degrees. In the process, they might crack, explode, shrink, but never will they come out exactly as one hopes. I transformed the arbitrariness and chance of ceramic art into a digital collage - making it exactly how I wished - and then further transformed it into a weightless, surreal silk print. As wall hangings or as silk kimonos, they'll be a reminder of earth/nature, from where everything comes.
